OREA, Institute for Oriental and European Archaeology, Austrian Academy of Sciences organize the 10th ICAANE conference.

Niccolò Manassero is going to present two contributions: "The Ivory Thrones from Parthian Nisa. Furniture Design between Philhellenism and Iranian Revival" (27 April) and "Banbhore: Current Researches on a Major Trade Centre on the Indus' Delta" (29 April).

La situazione dei beni archeologici in Iraq e Siria

The Roma Conference "Chi ha diritto alla cultura" (April, 16, ex Dogana, via dello Scalo di San Lorenzo 10) deals with the situation of the archaeological heritage in Syria and Iraq. Concerning this latter state, some papers present the most recent Italian interventions in restoration and archaeological activities.

The workshop organized by the University of Genua focuses on the application of gender theory to the study of votive terracottas. Such a research perspective is concentrated on the recogntion and the diversification of gender in material culture, intended as a place of construction of the representative system of society.

Within the framework of the conference, Roberta Menegazzi is going to present a contribution entitled "Identità (e ambiguità) di genere nella coroplastica di Seleucia al Tigri".

The Iraqi-Italian Institutes of Baghdad re-open


The Iraqi-Italian Institutes of Baghdad reopen

After having being closed for more than 10 years, the Iraqi-Italian Institute of Archaeological Sciences and the Iraqi-Italian Centre for the Restoration of Monuments reopened Monday, April 4. The new headquarters is located in front of the Qushlah, the Ottoman military quarter close to the historical suq of Baghdad. The building dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It has been renovated in order to host the archaeological police, the directorate of the Iraqi Antiquities and the Italian institution that, together with the CRAST, will organize research project, cultural events and training courses.

Presentation of the book "L'Iraq Museum di Baghdad. Gli interventi italiani per la riqualificazione di un patrimonio dell'umanità". Palazzo Firenze, Rome.

The Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l'Asia and Monumenta Orientalia, in cooperation with the Società Dante Alighieri and the Italian National Commission for Unesco, are going to present the volume "L'Iraq Museum di Baghdad. Gli interventi italiani per la riqualificazione di un patrimonio dell'umanità". The event will take place on Wednesday March, 16 at 5.30 PM at the Galleria del Primaticcio, Palazzo Firenze - Piazza di Firenze, 7 - Rome.
