Conference  “Cultural heritage’s safety and security in zone of war or instability”

November 25th -27th, 2020

Professor Carlo Lippolis participates, on November 26th 2020, in the workshop entitled "Cultural heritage's safety and security in zone of war or instability" organized by the University of Rome La Sapienza. His speech illustrates the requalification activities promoted by the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino in the Iraq Museum of Baghdad ("An archeology for the community. The Italian requalification projects for the National Museum (Iraq Museum) in Baghdad"). The different interventions within the workshop focus on the methodologies for the protection of cultural heritage threatened by military conflicts and terrorist attacks.

On Tuesday 24 November 2020, the Museo Egizio of Turin presents the online conference entitled “Cause, conseguenze e memoria della pandemia che colpì l’Egitto e il regno ittita nel XIV secolo a.C.”.
The lecturers, Professor Stefano de Martino (Department of Historical Studies at the University of Turin, Director of the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino), and Professor Christian Greco (Director of the Museo Egizio of Turin) illustrate from the historical and archaeological points of view the pandemic which, starting from the Levantine area, struck the Hittite and Egyptian armies, spreading in the Near East during the XIV century BC.

In June 2020, the book “L’area archeologica di Tūlūl al-Baqarat. Gli scavi della missione italiana. Interim Report (2013-2019)” (Carlo Lippolis with the contributions by Jacopo Bruno, Eleonora Quirico and Giulia Ragazzon) has been published by Apice Libri within the series of the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino Attività e Ricerca. The two-volumes publication presents the results of the first seven years of archaeological investigations by the Italian expedition of the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino at Tūlūl al-Baqarat in southern Iraq.

On the 4th of February 2020 Professor C. Lippolis participates with a speech in the International Symposium entitled "Archäologische Forschungen in Anatolien und benachbarten Regionen. Archäologische Entdeckungen der jüngsten Zeit in Anatolien, Nordirak und Turkmenistan", organized by the Julius Maximilians Universität of Würzburg and dedicated to the presentation of the most recent results of the archaeological researches in Anatolia, northern Iraq and Turkmenistan. The speech entitled "Old Nisa (Turkmenistan), a Place for the Glory of the Arsacids. Recent Discoveries and Future Perspectives" presents the latest archaeological expeditions and the future activities coordinated by the Centro Ricerche e Scavi di Torino at Old Nisa in Turkmenistan.

BANUU Project

BANUU Project

On the 15th of January 2020 the kick-off meeting a new Erasmus+ project calle "Banuu - Designing new pathways for employability and entrepreneurship of Iraqi students in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage” took place at the University of Baghdad. This new project is coordinated by the University of Bologna and implemented by a partnership composed by the following members: Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino, Koç University of Istanbul, University of Baghdad, University of Kufa, University of Al-Qadisiyah, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq and Ministy of Culture and Tourism of Iraq (as associated partner). The Banuu project, funded by the European Union, aims at contributing to the improvement of the employability of the Iraqi students in the field of Humanities through the designing and framing of internship programs and entrepreneurial paths.

Opening of the didactic room for children at the Iraq Museum of Baghdad

On the 14th of January 2020, the didactic room for children has been inaugurated at the Iraq Museum of Baghdad. The project has been supported by the European Union and represents one of the goals of the EDUU Project (Education and Cultural Heritage Enhancement for Social Cohesion in Iraq), coordinated by the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna in collaboration with the Centro Ricerche e Scavi of Turin, the University of Turin, the Iraq Museum and the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage of Iraq. The didactic room is equipped with a video station (for which a cartoon on the importance of the Iraqi cultural heritage preservation was created) and with games and educational maps.

ANNOUNCEMENT CRAST

The Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l'Asia does share the concern expressed by many Institutions for intentional targeting of Iranian cultural heritage sites and condemns it in unequivocal terms. The 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and ratifications prohibit the intentional destruction of cultural heritage during armed conflict. The CRAST calls upon International Institutions to protect civilians and cultural heritage in Iran and all over the world. The CRAST stands with other professional societies concerned about the preservation of cultural heritage in Iran.
