The workshop organized by the University of Genua focuses on the application of gender theory to the study of votive terracottas. Such a research perspective is concentrated on the recogntion and the diversification of gender in material culture, intended as a place of construction of the representative system of society.

Within the framework of the conference, Roberta Menegazzi is going to present a contribution entitled "Identità (e ambiguità) di genere nella coroplastica di Seleucia al Tigri".

Presentation of the book "L'Iraq Museum di Baghdad. Gli interventi italiani per la riqualificazione di un patrimonio dell'umanità". Palazzo Firenze, Rome.

The Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l'Asia and Monumenta Orientalia, in cooperation with the Società Dante Alighieri and the Italian National Commission for Unesco, are going to present the volume "L'Iraq Museum di Baghdad. Gli interventi italiani per la riqualificazione di un patrimonio dell'umanità". The event will take place on Wednesday March, 16 at 5.30 PM at the Galleria del Primaticcio, Palazzo Firenze - Piazza di Firenze, 7 - Rome.

The Iraq Museum in Baghdad is a unique place, not only for archaeologists. It is a window on the past of Mesopotamia and the history of mankind, as it preserves an extraordinary variety of artefacts that go from prehistorical times down to the Ottoman period.

In 2015, many years after the looting of 2003, the Iraqi authorities decided for its reopening. The Italians greatly contributed to the success of the project, as they realized the new outfitting of almost all the ground floor.

The reopening of the Museum is a strong signal that states the importance of History and the necessity of protecting the cultural heeritage, especially in a time of senseless attacks.

The workshop that takes place in Leiden - presentation of the main research conducted by the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l'Asia and the Netherlands Institute for the Near East - is the first act of a five-years cooperation between the two institutes. The Centro Scavi is there represented by Stefano de Martino (The Spread of the Hurrian Language and Culture in Hittite Anatolia during the Early Imperial Age), Carlo Lippolis (The Italian Archaeological Project at Tulul al Baqarat, al Kut, Iraq) and Roberta Menegazzi (The Terracotta Figurines from Seleucia on the Tigris).

On the occasion of the European Year for Development and one hundred years after the deciphering of the Hittite language, the University Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples and the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l'Asia dedicate a day to the presentation of the activities of the Italian expeditions working in Turkey on sites linked to the Hittite civilization. Part of the day will be devoted to the presentation of the projects of archaeological cooperation supported by the University Suor Orsola together with other Italian institutions in the Mediterranean countries of North-Africa.

Iranian-Italian Joint Mission in Khuzistan

Eight Campaign (October 1-November 15 2015)

Works continue in the Hellenistic and Parthian sanctuary at Kal-e Chendar, in the Valley of Shami. Main goals of the campaign are the widening of the trenches on the so-called Stein Terrace, the rescue excavation of the monumental tombs, and the survey of the defence systems of the site.
