Training Courses in Iraq

The training courses for SBAH personnel scheduled for autumn 2026, organised by CRAST as part of the programme of activities of the Italian-Iraqi Cultural Centre in Baghdad, have been completed in Iraq. The project is supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The first of the two courses took place from 4 to 7 October in Seleucia, where the Turin archaeological mission is currently conducting its work. The course was held by Prof. Alessandra Cellerino and included a presentation of archaeological materials from the site, with a focus on techniques for their documentation.

The second course was held from 11 to 13 October at the Iraq Museum in Baghdad by Dr. Fadhil Abed Allawi, head of the museum’s restoration laboratory. It focused on the first aid of archaeological materials directly at the excavation site, with the aim of ensuring their initial preservation and stabilisation. The programme will continue with new courses in early 2027.
