Tell Kesaran

ceramic kilns
Tell Kesaran. Pottery kilns

The wide and low tell lies at the foot of the great tell of Yelkhi, on which the fortified palace of level I was built, and contains the remains of a Cassite village. Several pottery kilns, whose most fine examples were found in the residential area of the palace, belong to the first phase of settlement. The abandonment of the great residence of Tell Yelkhi was probably the reason behind the decline of Kesaran’s rural settlement, which was nevertheless frequented to a limited extent in Neo-Assyrian times.
